Quartermaster General WW2 Preludium wprowadza krótką fazę rozgrywki poprzedzającą właściwą grę, opartą na nowych kartach z dodatku Preludium, które przygotowują świat na wybuch II wojny światowej.
Gra w trakcie Preludium wykorzystuje skróconą sekwencję tury, zaprojektowaną tak, aby za każdym razem tworzyć inne warunki początkowe, z których rozpoczyna się standardowa rozgrywka. Występują dwa rodzaje kart Preludium: Historia! oraz Zbrojenia!
Karty Historii! są zazwyczaj rozpatrywane natychmiast po zagraniu i zwiększają lub zmniejszają poziom Napięcia. Karty Zbrojeń! zagrywane są zakryte, podobnie jak karty reakcji, lecz ich użycie (w trakcie rozgrywki głównej) wymaga odrzucenia standardowej karty z ręki.
Gdy łączny poziom Napięcia wynikający z kart Historii osiągnie wartość 10, faza Preludium dobiega końca i rozpoczyna się regularna rozgrywka.
